I love ArtStays!!  I have taken many different workshops there over the years and my experience has always been first rate.  The teachers are knowledgeable, interesting and fun.

The no-stress environment at Emandal is truly special.   It’s an opportunity to unplug from the cell phone and the internet, to enjoy alone time and camaraderie. And the beautiful setting: the river, the mountains, the trees, the barn, the garden, the animals, the cozy rustic cabins, the delicious meals.  Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful . . .

I remember such a sense of AWE at all the wonderful things you shared with us during the class. The awe that I felt every day kept me on a wonderful nature high well after I went home. I was seeing more and taking time to look closely at things that seemed new or different. It really was amazing. And it lingers on. That crazy rose gall... All the wonderful mushrooms I’m noticing around... How those raindrops glistened like crystals in that video I sent you. I love being on an AWE high. Thank you for that wonderful gift.

Emandal Art Stays are amazing! I don’t want to miss any. Creativity explodes at theFarm as students and teachers relax into the rhythm of the river. Some students prefer certain classes, while others, including myself, like to try a new class each year. New friends are made, the instructors are excellent, and everyone comes away with a sense of achievement and renewal.

Emandal Art Stay was the most inspirational time I spent all year. The place is peaceful and exhilarating with supportive instructors, talented classmates, and excellent food. I highly recommend to everyone to do an Art Stay at Emandal.

I needed to be held.
My creativity was at a standstill.
It was blocked.
So was I.
A friend suggested an ArtStay at Emandal
A what? Where?
I’ll take it.

The beauty of the place, of the people there, was the balm I needed to relax, let go, sleep.

Camaraderie was there and so was silence and solitude.

I slept. I healed in the graciousness of the place. I found myself. I was alive and well.

Last September (2025) I had the privilege and pleasure of participating in an Art Stay at Emandal. The inspiring class I enrolled in was called Illustrative Journaling. A small group of us were led by professional Artist, Laura Corben. With our watercolor paints, pens and pencils we were encouraged to create sketches and paintings in our journals of what we saw and felt at this very beautiful rural and rustic farm. We all found inspiration in the established orchards, gardens, the fields with farm animals and scattered barns. A short hike down to the “wild and scenic” Eel River was a captivating place to paint. And so was the serene Rainbow lake, a short hike up the hill from the main grounds - where we would regather during the day to share our thoughts and work.

A special memory was the communal meals (breakfast and dinner) all the students would share from the different classes offered - together (with lots of excited conversations and laughter). The meals created for us in Tamara’s Kitchen were consistently delicious. Gourmet. Local, and fresh from the garden. It was a peaceful and inspiring five days and I hope that I have the opportunity to participate again!”
